Band and Brown have commissioned moblog:tech to create several promotional moblogs for their client, Sony Ericsson.
Running as competitions, the best entrants won prizes such as top of the range Sony Ericsson mobile phones and trips to London to attend cinema premieres.
By running moblogs along side national and international campaigns, such as “Soundtrack to your life,” Band and Brown created buzz, engaged a new technology literate audience, and created positive re-enforcement for Sony Ericsson. Ongoing competitions such as Shoegaga engage both the moblog:UK audience as well as members of the public, generating column inches in National press metro/sunday times etc.
“Moblogging competitions have been an indispensable tool on several Sony Ericsson campaigns, allowing us to reach a wide variety of people on a more personal level. A specific example of this was our ‘Movie Moments’ campaign, which not only received a large number of respondents but also helped introduce our brand messages and products to a new audience. We always turn to moblog:tech to host moblogging competitions, as they not only tailor them to our specific needs but are also quick, creative and efficient, which is essential for a busy PR agency such as ourselves.”
Fran Matthews, Sony Ericsson Account Manager, Band and Brown.
Rod Baber is already the Guinness world-record holder for ascending the highest summits of all 47 European countries in the shortest time, having beaten the old record by four-and-a-half years. This Monday the 21st of May 2007, Rod entered the Guiness book of world records once again.
Rod set out to make the highest mobile phone-call and send the highest text message ever sent. Sponsored by Motorola, Rod was given a Motorizr Z8 handset to record images, text, video and audio content whilst at base camp and at the peak of Everest.
As well as utilising a Myspace and Facebook page, Rod’s moblog was updated live, allowing the world to see what was happening on his attempt as it was happening. This is an exciting element of what was a very successful PR campaign, with front page headlines on bbc.co.uk, The Register.com, an article in The Times on May 23rd, and many other D2C newspapers, websites and blogs.
The moblog was a late addition to the marketing/PR campaign, having been launched on the 15th of May with an MMS test post.
Through the 15th of May 2007 to the 23rd May, the Conquer Everest moblog achieved the following:
Using a moblog to document not only his journey, but his triumph, Rod gave the world the chance to share in his achievement as it was happening, whilst in parallel giving Motorola’s new Motorizr Z8 fantastic PR in a difficult to reach consumer segment.
moblog:UK’s excellent search engine indexing means that the long tail effect of Rod’s achievement will continue, with anyone interested over time able to revisit his achievement in image, video and audio format on his personal moblog.
Sherri Majid, Associate Creative Director, Edelman PR:
“If a picture tells a thousand words, imagine the possibilities with a mobile phone that delivers multimedia and broadband, moblog:tech and the most spectacular views in the world. Dynamic, interactive, strikingly visual, community-driven, moblogUK delivered results beyond our expectations. How else would you communicate the progress of a mountaineer attempting to make the world’s highest mobile phone — practically live — from Mount Everest? Instead of merely providing updates on his progress, Rod was able to engage directly with the community and gather overwhelming support as he made his way to the summit. But moblog:UK makes sense for online campaigns beyond our technology clients. We see huge opportunities for this product and plan to integrate moblogging into the mix wherever possible.”
Images and video posted to the site are then plotted into an integrated mapping functionality, creating an dynamic and interactive map of all the public art in the UK uploaded by the public.
Vertical social oriented sites of any kind struggle within a brand context, as brand loyalty and affinity is a nebulous relationship, and the motivation and incentive to become part of a social or blogging network around a brand needs to be carefully thought out, plotted and executed. The Big Art Mob is a very good example of a vertical social blogging site which through it’s aims creates meaning and provides incentive to engage.
Adam Gee New Media Commissioner, Factual:
“The Big Art Mob has the distinction of being the first use of mobile blogging by a UK broadcaster, as well as going live a full year before the TV dimension of the project (which is a really interesting experiment).
I commissioned it from moblog:tech after exploring their technology for some 14 months and spotting an appropriate series to apply it to. Bringing together the technology and the project, the right horse for the course, led to a very satisfying and innovative commission
developed through a great energetic partnership. moblog:tech are a very agile, responsive and committed company, who make complex technologies simple.”
Mobloggers use their phones to post pictures, audio and video from their phones, tracking their lives and the things they see. They comment on each others posts, tag content to organise it, make friends and much more.
